Bee Swarm

Honey Bee Swarm II

Yesterday Aida looked out our kitchen window and started screaming for us to come and look. There was a cloud of bugs - hundreds. Slowly they settled down on one of our orange trees.

Maybe they are some of the missing honey bees?

Whoa. That's cool. Great picture! Must be a queen in there somewhere....

Yeaha - I guess the swarm forms because the queen leaves their old home - most of the worker bees follow.

The old colony quickly gets another queen - however it can be dangerous because both of the new colonies can collapse.

How cool is it that you have an orange tree in your yard? Ah, to be living in sunny California . . .
