A Lovely Day

Yesterday evening I went to a great wedding of a co-worker of mine. The only bummer was that Eduardo couldn't come with me because he had to stay home with a sick Pablo. {Isn't it early for so much crud to be going around?} By 4:00, you would have never guessed that the day had started out with pouring rain. They had a beautiful ceremony overlooking the ocean in La Jolla. Their first dance was to the awesome song, "Lovely Day". I couldn't find much on YouTube for the song. However, even with the cheesy photos in the above video, the song still rocks.

The very out of the closet "man of honor" {the bride's best friend} gave the pre-dinner toast where among other thing he informed his Marine Sergent looking father that the groom deserved credit for actually getting him to watch and enjoy football. Father and son both laughed. The father did not look like the type of man who ever imagined having a gay son. {I have no idea how hard or easy it was for him when his son "came out".} I couldn't help but think how great for everyone involved that they could be so open and obviously enjoy each other's company with no secrets keeping them apart. Shouldn't it always be like that? I think of the families of Ted Haggard or Larry Craig, not to mention their poor wives; wouldn't it be easier for them if everything was just out in the open?

What do we gain as a society when people hide their true identities? What message are we sending when members of the military have to hide who they are? Why don't the Democrats articulate this better? {yes, it always comes back to the Democrats for me} It is hard to imagine it was only 10 years ago it was such a HUGE deal when Ellen came out of the closet. Our society has changed, it is time for our politicians to catch up.
