Over at Salon:

Democrats' responsibility for Bush radicalism

It is staggering, and truly disgusting, that even in August, 2007 -- almost six years removed from the 9/11 attacks and with the Bush presidency cemented as one of the weakest and most despised in American history -- that George W. Bush can "demand" that the Congress jump and re-write legislation at his will, vesting in him still greater surveillance power, by warning them, based solely on his say-so, that if they fail to comply with his demands, the next Terrorist attack will be their fault. And they jump and scamper and comply (Meteor Blades has the list of the 16 Senate Democrats voting in favor; the House will soon follow).

Read the whole thing here. No one writes better about our disappearing civil liberties. The Democrats are letting this happen. When the GOP controlled Congress if their members threated to vote against the interests of the party their leadership would threaten them with losing important committee chairmanships or even threaten to run candidates against them in a primary. This issue is so important Reid and Pelosi should have done the same.

Please call Feinstein's office {Here in San Diego: (619)231-9712}and let her know that this was a reprehensible vote for her to make.

While you are making phone calls, give Susan Davis some love {(619) 280-5353} and tell her how much you appreciate that she voted against this God awful bill. A lot of us gave her a very hard time about her Iraq Supplemental vote and it is good to let her know that we appreciate it when she makes the right choice.
