Our Friend Alberto in today's Washington Post:
All of these documents and public testimony indicate that the Justice Department did not seek the removal of any U.S. attorney to interfere with or improperly influence any case or investigation.WTF does this mean:
To be clear: I directed my then-deputy chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, to initiate this process; fully knew that it was occurring; and approved the final recommendations. Sampson periodically updated me on the review. As I recall, his updates were brief, relatively few in number and focused primarily on the review process.
During those conversations, to my knowledge, I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign. In other words: I don't remember nothing. HOWEVER if Monica Goodling gets immunity and spills her Jesus freak guts, or more documents are released that show I am full of shit - I said "recall" and "knowledge" so you can't accuse me of lying.
Somehow I have a feeling that Schumer and Leahy are not going to let Gonzales get away with this B.S.
Update: Digby chimes in about the same statement from Gonzales:
That's the kind of statement that should give everyone confidence that he's just the man to run the most powerful police agency in the world. I know I feel better.
