They Rot Alone

Via NYT:
The cells at Camp 6, which began to house its first prisoners last week. Following a riot at Guantánamo in May, the facility has been retrofitted to make it more difficult to attack guards and commit suicidide.

Why do we not hear any artists critising what is going on at Guantanamo? I don't mean a generic "Anti-war" stance I mean really asking tough questions about the many troubling human rights abuses that are happening in Cuba.
I can guess the answer; a large percentage of the American audience think the guys in Guantanamo want them and everyone they know and love dead. But how different is that from what Pinochet did? He didn't torture those people just because he was a sado-masochist- he thought or at least he argued that they were a genuine threat to the State of Chile. Last weekend I posted a link to the Sting song, "They Dance Alone". I still commend he and other artists for bringing attention to the human rights abuses in Chile and other places in the world. On the other hand I doubt losing the pro-Pinochet Chileans really had any effect on Sting's career. He was hardly sticking his neck out.
Bush and the administration get away with what they are doing because they have convinced the American people that those people locked away for years with no charges brought are very very bad men. It would be nice if some artists who have a way to get million of people to listen to them would question that reality. (Obviously this responsiblility should really rest on the shoulders of the media, but I gave up on them a long time ago)
