Our little Mexicans

Aida, 14 months old.

Yesterday evening we went to the immigration rally in Balboa Park. We went with some friends including our friend Juan who came to Fresno as a boy. He told us how stupid the other kids made him feel because he was in the "new arrival" class. There was pressure not to "act Mexican" A lot has been made about the all of the Mexican flags at these rallys and I think it is smart that a lot of people brought American flags yesterday. People argue Mexican flags show that Mexican immigrants are not proud of this country-that is so untrue.

When we decided to live in the States it was very important to Eduardo that his kids grow up proud of being Mexican- not just that their "dad is from Mexico"- but they too are Mexican. Last night it was great seeing Aida cheering on people driving by with Mexican and American flags. Eduardo doesn't have to worry about a thing with that girl- she is totally a little Mexicana.
